The Poneglyphs are ancient cubes of indestructible stone, carved with a script almost nobody alive can read. They're the only surviving record of the Void Century — which is exactly why the World Government made reading them a crime.
Two kinds of Poneglyph
- Historical Poneglyphs record pieces of the erased history.
- Road Poneglyphs — four of them — each give a coordinate. Combine all four and they point to a single spot: Laugh Tale.
Why Robin matters so much
Nico Robin is the last person alive able to read the ancient script — which is why she was hunted for most of the series. Reaching Laugh Tale essentially requires both the four Road Poneglyphs and someone who can read them, and right now that's Robin.
Where the Road Poneglyphs are
Over the story, the Road Poneglyphs have surfaced in the hands of major powers — held on Zou, at Fish-Man Island's neighbour Ryugu, and by Yonko like Big Mom and Kaido. That's not a coincidence: only the strongest crews could ever gather them, which is part of why the endgame runs through the Emperors.
The Rio Poneglyph
There's said to be one master stone — the Rio Poneglyph — that, when all the pieces are read together, tells the true history of the world in full. It's believed to be at Laugh Tale alongside the One Piece.
